BIOGRAPHY

Harshdeep Kaur(born 16 December 1986 Delhi, India) is an Indian singer known for her Bollywood Hindi, Punjabi, and Sufi songs. She is popularly known as "Sufi Ki Sultana" because of her soulful Sufi renditions. Harshdeep Kaur is also known for her work on Rockstar (2011), Raazi (2018) and Sultan (2016). After winning titles in two reality shows, Kaur established herself as a lead singer in Bollywood soundtracks. Kaur was sixteen years old when she released her first Bollywood song, "Sajna Mai Haari." Kaur has recorded songs for film music in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Gujarati, and Bengali, and has established herself as a leading playback singer of Indian cinema. She has worked with leading music directors including A R Rahman, Pritam Chakraborty, Vishal-Shekhar, Salim Sulaiman, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Amit Trivedi, Shantanu Moitra, Tanishk Bagchi, Himesh Reshammiya, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Sohail Sen.She is from a musical background. Her father, Savinder Singh, owns a factory of musical instruments. She attended New Era Public School in New Delhi. Apart from studying, she started learning music at the age of six. She learnedIndian classical music from Mr. Tejpal Singh, popularly known as the Singh Brothers, and Western classical music from George Pullinkala, Delhi Music Theatre. Later, at the age of twelve, to explore the world of music, she joined the Delhi School of Music to learn piano.

CAREER

Harshdeep Kaurparticipated and was the winner of the NDTV Imagine’s singing reality show ‘Junoon – Kuch Kar Dikhaane Ka ‘ in 2008. She had Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan as a mentor and she was part of ‘Sufi Ki Sultan’. She got the title of ‘Sufi Ki Sultana’ by the great actor Amitabh Bachchan who was invited as a chief guest for the Grand Finale. She won over the other genres of Bollywood and Folk. She was seen in Sufi attire on the show when she sang Sufi songs. She was the winner of MTV Video Gaga Contest in 2001. After winning the two singing reality shows, she entered Bollywood as a lead singer and recorded the songs in different languages. She became the well-known playback singer in Indian film industry. She even sang for Malayalam film, Pakistani TV series and film, Marathi TV Show, Colors Serial etc. She started her journey with the song "Sajna Main Haari" for the movie’ Aapko Pehle Bhi Kahin Dekha Hai’. She never looked back after this song. She sang the popular hit songs for Bollywood which includes "Ik Onkar" from Rang De Basanti, "Baari Barsi" from Band Baaja Baaraat, "Alif Allah (Jugni)" from Cocktail, "Heer" from Jab Tak Hai Jaan, "Kabira (Encore)" from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, "Sachi Muchi" from Sultan, "Zaalima" from Raees, "Twist Kamariya" from "Bareilly Ki Barfi" and many more.
